Product Description

3M Scotch 35 is 3M's professional-grade color-coding PVC vinyl electrical tape, nominal 7 mil / 0.178–0.18 mm, single-coat non-corrosive rubber-based or rubber-resin PSA, linerless. It is for primary insulation of splices up to 600 V, phase identification, motor-lead color coding, piping-system marking, safety-zone marking, harness bundling and outerwrap over LV/MV/HV joints. The elastic PVC gives high elongation, flame retardation, UV resistance (white fully UV; other colors fade-resistant), abrasion/moisture/alkali/acid/solvent resistance. Regional TDS temperature ranges vary: some 0–105°C, some -10–105°C, UL510 nominal 80°C, IEC/CSA continuous per type (e.g., F-PVC P/90 or P/105 by license); 9 or 10 fade-resistant colors.

Features

• Multi-color phase coding: 9/10 fade-resistant colors (red/yellow/green/blue/brown/grey/white/orange/violet, some pink) for 3-phase/multi-phase/neutral/ground ID; easier than black tape plus marker or heat-shrink sleeves.
• 7-mil elastic PVC conformability: 0.178–0.18mm, 225% elongation; half-lap to ~5/8 width on small-radius splices; softer than PET/glass, more moisture-proof than paper, more uniform than cheap colored vinyl.
• 600V insulation plus marking: UL510/CSA 600V, dielectric ~1250V/mil/49.2kV/mm, IR >10⁶MΩ; primary splice insulation and color ring in one, no separate black+paint.
• Rubber/rubber-resin non-corrosive: steel/backing adhesion 2.2N/10mm, low electrolytic corrosion (factor 0.9) on Cu/Al leads; safer long-term than acidic/ad-hoc cloth tapes.
• Flame-retardant and weather/UV: UL510 flame retardant; white fully UV, others fade-resistant for outdoor/plant/cell-site sun-rain; safer than non-FR colored packaging tape.
• Chemical/wide-environment resistance: abrasion, moisture, alkalis, acids, many solvents (scope by TDS); protects motor leads, piping and harnesses better than label film only.
• Regional temperature ranges: some 0–105°C, some -10–105°C, UL510 nominal 80°C, IEC/CSA per type 90/105°C; better than indoor-only vinyl, but below -10 use per regional TDS.
• Spec-ready outerwrap: half-lap over rubber-splicing/mastic for LV/MV/HV; combines phase color and UV/mechanical jacket versus monochrome tape alone.

Applications

• 3-phase/multi-phase ID: distribution branches, power cables, panel bus color rings per yellow/green/red or brown/black/grey for A/B/C, N, PE.
• Motor-lead coding: rewound motors, terminals, VFD/servo U/V/W leads wrapped in 35 to prevent cross-phase.
• Wire-splice primary insulation: 600V pigtail/crimp splices in ≥2 half-laps, giving insulation and phase color together.
• Control/instrument harness coding: PLC, DCS, terminal blocks and sensor wires color-coded for inspection/retrofit traceability.
• Piping system marks: shop air, water, oil, vacuum and chemical lines color rings on pipe body/valves per safety color code.
• Safety-zone marking: switchgear rooms, lockout/tagged/energized warning strips on floor/equipment with color tape plus signs.
• MV/HV splice outerwrap: over rubber self-fusing/mastic primary, half-lap 35 by phase color for UV/abrasion/contamination protection.
• Cable-jacket minor repair and ID: LV control jacket nicks, cell-site/comms line segregation, retrofit-added line color rings.
