Product Description

3M Scotch Super 33+ is 3M's premium all-weather black PVC vinyl electrical tape, 7 mil / ≈0.178 mm, single-coat rubber (some pages "rubber-resin") PSA, linerless. It is for primary insulation of wire/cable splices up to 600 V, 600 V bus insulation, outer jacketing of HV/LV cable splices and wire-harness bundling. The elastic PVC stays conformable to -18°C and runs continuously to 105°C (UL510 often listed 80°C; CSA/IEC continuous 105°C/90°C by TDS), is flame-retardant, UV/abrasion/moisture resistant and resists alkalis/acids/corrosion. It is compatible with solid-dielectric cables, rubber/synthetic splicing compounds and epoxy/polyurethane, for indoor, outdoor, above/below grade, maintenance and OEM harness work.

Features

• 7-mil elastic PVC, high conformability: 225–250% elongation; half-lap stretch to ~5/8 width on irregular splices; more formable than rigid PET/glass, more moisture-proof than paper.
• Rubber/rubber-resin tack over wide cold range: steel ~3 N/10mm at 23°C, ~6.5 N/10mm at -18°C; wider/colder professional performance than general vinyl such as Scotch 33 (approx 0–80°C).
• 600 V primary insulation, high dielectric: UL510/CSA 600 V; 1000 V/mil or 8 kV/≈42.5 kV/mm by test method, IR >10¹²Ω; better than thin general PVC, cloth and packaging tapes for wire-splice insulation.
• -18 to 105°C all-weather: continuous 105°C CSA/IEC, UL510 nominal 80°C; UV/weather/salt-wet outperforming household thin vinyl.
• Flame-retardant and corrosion-inhibiting: UL510 self-extinguish, treated adhesive inhibits conductor corrosion; compatible with rubber/synthetic splice compounds, epoxy/polyurethane.
• Abrasion/chemical jacket: resists wear, alkalis/acids, moisture (solvent scope by region); better UV/mechanical jacket over self-fusing rubber than rubber alone.
• Black professional single color, linerless: more insulation/jacket-focused than colored 35, thinner than 8.5-mil 88, less tacky-handling than self-fusing 130C/23.
• Spec-ready half-lap method: TDS recommends Scotchfil/130C padding on irregular splices then ≥2 half-lap 33+ layers for inspection-ready joints.

Applications

• 600 V wire-splice primary insulation: branch, control, lighting and panel pigtails wrapped ≥2 half-laps for moisture-tight insulation.
• Cable repair jacket: minor LV power/control jacket damage or re-wrap; mastic/self-fusing inner layer then 33+ outer for UV/mechanical.
• 600 V busbar/riser insulation: switchgear, distribution bus, copper/aluminum bars on straight and bent profiles as tape insulation.
• HV splice outerwrap: over rubber/self-fusing primary insulation on MV/HV joints to add abrasion/UV/contamination protection.
• Harness bundling and base marking: equipment multi-wire, instrument and automation bundles tied and jacketed in uniform black.
• Outdoor/below-grade wet service: streetlight, landscape, pump station, conduit/overhead cables exposed to UV, moisture, alkali/acid atmosphere.
• Cold-climate installation: cold-store electrical, northern outdoor winter splices; conformable at -18°C without brittleness.
• General repair of cord outer jacket: charger/tool/appliance cord outer nicks (conductor intact, per code—not a substitute for connectors/relacement).
