3M Impact Stripping Tape 500 is a light-green rubber-backed, acrylic-adhesive, easy-release-paper single-coat heavy tape at 0.91mm/36mil—the thinnest in the impact-stripping family but with outstanding conformability. It is made for masking and surface protection during dry-media blast paint removal and other blasting (aluminum oxide, steel shot, glass bead, plastic media), including plastic-media-blast (PMB) stripping; it also serves die-cut stencils for wood/glass signs. It bonds to metal, glass, wood and many plastics, is die-cut friendly and removes in one piece with minimal residue. Apply on surfaces 4–49°C; long-term limit about 49°C. Not for hot ovens, liquid stripper tanks or electrical insulation.

• Light-green rubber impact backing: 0.91mm rubber takes aluminum-oxide/steel-shot/glass-bead/plastic-media impact; won't punch through like crepe/thin PVC, less bulky than duct sheets.
• Thinnest in family yet conformable: better on curves/small fonts/stencils than thicker impact sheets; flat, contoured, extrusion, glass edge and wood sign all acceptable, finer than heavy rubber slab.
• Acrylic reliable bond plus one-piece clean removal: stable tack on metal/glass/wood/many plastics, whole-strip after blasting with low residue; better aging than rubber blast film, less residue than hot-melt mask.
• Easy silicone-paper liner, die-cut ready: 0.081mm paper liner for clean conversion; small letters, logos and wood/glass patterns can be kiss-cut; better than linerless thick gum and plain kraft.
• Green high-visibility lines: light green cut edges stand out on metal/wood/glass; fewer missed spots in selective stripping vs buff/transparent PVC.
• Dry-blast/PMB dedicated: PMB paint-strip protection, dry-media containment without soak/break; better particle resistance than liquid-stripper film and bake crepe, not for liquid-stripper tanks.
• Clear temp window, site-friendly: apply from 4°C, long-term ≤49°C; ambient blast floor preferred, not oven/hot-surface—different from 121°C masking, narrower than cold-storage tape.
• Protection plus stencil in one: broad-area shield and narrow/kiss-cut lettering; more contour-hold than plain rubber guard, less edge-lift than paper stencil.

Applications

• Dry abrasive paint stripping: aircraft/auto/machinery old-coat removal; mask edges, holes, nameplates and thread zones not to be blasted.
• Plastic media blast (PMB) stripping: aluminum/composite/thin-sheet gentle de-paint; 500 protects retained faces without substrate damage.
• Aluminum-oxide/steel-shot/glass-bead work: metal cleaning, peening, matte finishing; rubber backing takes rebound on masked boundaries.
• Wood/glass sign stencils: identification/memorial/shop wood signs and frosted glass letters kiss-cut from 500 for crisp sandblast patterns.
• Small-font and fine-line masking: equipment numbers, logos, nameplates, instrument tags, selective stripping with visible green cut lines.
• Maintenance local protection: overhaul bases, valve bodies, enclosure perimeters; expose only the blast area, keep abrasive out of precision parts.
• Light stone/decorative etch (media-dependent): granite/marble shallow lettering trials with 500; deep carving uses thicker impact family or stone stencil.
• Dry-treated plastics: ABS/PC/acrylic areas approved for dry blasting; acrylic adhesive removes in one piece on most rigid plastics.
