Product Description

3M Scotch 2166 is a black rubber-based waterproof mastic/putty tape for electrical and telecom sealing. Standard format is 63.5 mm × 0.6 m × 3.175 mm, single-side coated, supplied on an easy-to-remove liner, hand-cuttable and moldable to irregular shapes. It is not used alone as the outer jacket: apply it for moisture/water sealing at cable joints, feeders, antennas, junction boxes and wall penetrations, then overwrap with 3M vinyl electrical tape (e.g., Super 33+, 88) for mechanical protection and abrasion resistance. Typical application range is about −18 to 55°C, temperature rating often cited −55 to 80°C, water absorption ≤0.05%, with good conformability and dielectric/insulation support when combined with vinyl tape.

Applications

• Cellular base-station feeder/antenna joints: apply 2166 at RRU jumpers and feeder connectors for gap fill, then vinyl/rubber tape overwrap against rain.
• Cable joint and termination waterproofing: low-voltage splices, branches and shrinkable-joint ends filled with mastic, then overwrapped with vinyl or rubber self-amalgamating tape.
• Overhead insulated conductor joints: pack around taps and parallel groove clamps to reduce water ingress, oxidation and wet-track issues.
• Junction box/terminal cabinet/panel glands: seal multi-cable inlets to block rain, condensation, insects and rodents.
• Wall/pipe/AC penetrations: roll mastic into a ring at sleeve gaps or kitchen/bath wall holes, then vinyl overwrap; residential AC sleeves and pest/air-leak control.
• Jacket damage emergency repair: clean the damaged sheath, press 2166 over the cut, overwrap PVC as temporary or permanent moisture repair.
• Irregular device cushion-sealing: sensor heads, small transformers and outdoor camera cables—mastic at corners for water seal plus light cushioning.
• Combined with self-amalgamating tape: fill voids with 2166 first, wrap 23/130C for insulation, finish with PVC for abrasion resistance.
