3M 6969 is an industrial extra-heavy-duty duct tape, TDS total 0.25mm/10mil (some regional/distributor SKUs list 0.27mm/10.7mil—follow the purchased SKU TDS), built as “abrasion/water-resistant PE film + dense cloth scrim + aggressive rubber PSA,” single-coat roll, hand-tear. It targets HVAC, industrial MRO, construction, transport, truck/automotive, marine, metalworking, furniture and electronics: bundling heavy pipes, duct/pipe-end sealing, moisture-proof repair, tarp/poly drape splicing and hanging, temporary reinforcement, insulation over-splicing, light sandblast-overspray protection and conforming to rough sealed brick/concrete. The rubber gives instant tack, the PE film resists water and abrasion, and indoor temporary use can remove with little/no residue per SKU/surface (3M pages cite up to 3 months indoor, some US pages 60 days—confirm by substrate/load/TDS).

Features

• Extra-heavy PE + dense scrim: total 0.25–0.27mm, tensile 595N/100mm, elongation only 16%—thicker/stronger than general cloth (e.g. 3900 ~0.19mm), far tougher than crepe/office/PP film for pull and abrasion.
• Aggressive rubber, multi-surface: steel 180° peel 5.6N/cm/51oz for instant grab on metal/galvanized duct/painted wood/sealed brick-concrete/some plastics; faster startup than acrylic light film, better aging than hot-melt cloth.
• Waterproof/abrasion/light-corrosion: PE outer film resists moisture, wear and mild corrosion; outdoor-temp/MRO/cold-adjacent/wash-area use vs paper no water-wrinkle, vs nonwoven cloth better abrasion.
• Hand-tear straight, no curl: scrim guides cross/length tear, low-tack roll edges reduce contamination; faster MRO than scissor PVC/cloth, easier straight tear than non-scrim film.
• Conforms to rough/irregular: dense scrim + soft rubber on sealed brick/concrete, rusty faces, duct joints and odd fittings without lift; more conformal than rigid PVC/PET, better on coarse surfaces than thin cloth.
• Fire-test compliance: UL723/ASTM E84 flame spread 0, smoke 5 for HVAC/construction temporary containment and cable-tray temporary bundling by spec; not a universal fire-rated primary material.
• Indoor temporary low-residue: 3M pages allow up to 3 months indoor little/no residue (some US pages 60 days by scenario) for marking/protection/containment removal; actual residue depends on surface/temperature/load.
• Individual roll, multi-color: black/silver/olive, olive for field; 48mm individually wrapped, silver 72mm for wide seams; less dust waste than bulk cloth on site.

Applications

• HVAC ducts and pipe ends: galvanized/stainless duct joint temporary seal, insulation outer wrap, pipe/conduit-end capping and A/C service temporary patch; UL/ASTM smoke values for building-temp evaluation.
• Heavy bundling: large pipes, cable hoses, air lines and mixed bundles; metal/plastic pipes grouped, tension-stable.
• Moisture-proof repair/seal: damaged enclosures, equipment shrouds, temporary roof/utility-trench small leaks and cold-chain-adjacent non-permanent seal; PE water/abrasion resistance.
• Tarps/poly drapes: tarp mend/splice, jobsite/spray/paint-booth poly drape hanging, isolation plastic-curtain fixing, hand-tear fast.
• Temporary reinforce/protection: edge bump guard, light sandblast overspray protection, transit edge protection and indoor cable-trip control.
• Rough construction faces: sealed brick/concrete sealing, scaffold/formwork small-part temporary fix and site marking/labeling.
• Industrial MRO/transport: truck/bus/RV/shipyard/metal/wood/furniture temporary repair/bundle/mark/seal.
