3M™ 966 is an unsupported adhesive-transfer film—no PET/foam/cloth/paper carrier, only 3M™ High Temperature Acrylic Adhesive 100 PSA on a 62# densified kraft liner; 3M product page lists pure adhesive about 0.05mm/2mil while the 2024 TDS lists total tape 0.06mm/2.3mil and liner 0.09mm/3.6mil. It is built for thin-bond plus high temperature, high shear and low outgassing: strong peel/shear on stainless/aluminum/ABS/PC/glass/metal nameplates, short term 232°C/450°F, long term 204°C/400°F, down to −40°C, meeting NASA low-outgassing ASTM E595 with low leachable chloride for FPC, aerospace/defense, automotive LED, high-temp labels/nameplates and precision electronic lamination. It is not LSE-focused like PP/PE, not for large gaps, not foam-cushion; more low-outgassing/aerospace than 9460PC, hotter/HSE-than-950/9626 with lower initial LSE tack.

Features

• Unsupported Adhesive 100 high-temp: pure high-temp acrylic, product page 0.05mm/2mil and TDS 0.06mm/2.3mil, linerless-bond with no PET/foam caliper; hotter than 468MP/200MP, more long-heat than 300/360 quick-stick.
• 232 short / 204 long: high-temp labels, reflow-adjacent parts, under-hood electronics and oven/industrial markings; static shear 2000g@22°C, 1000g@70°C, 1000g@93°C, 400g@232°C all ＞10,000min, less slip than general transfer.
• Low outgas, low chloride: NASA ASTM E595 low outgassing and low leachable chloride for aerospace/defense/optics/precision electronics; less fog/corrosion than standard 9460PC 100MP, cleaner than rubber/hot-melt.
• Strong HSE peel: stainless 72h 8.5N/cm, ABS 72h 5.9, excellent on aluminum/PC/glass; metal nameplates, stainless/aluminum small parts, PC/PI thin films more stable than LSE adhesives.
• 62# DK anti-burr: hard densified kraft with green 3M print, hand-cut metal plates/die-cut nameplates without fuzz; same adhesive available 55#DK rotary, 58#PCK humid, stiffer than glassine, cheaper metal die-cut than PCK.
• Solvent/oil/UV/water/humidity: gasoline, oil, mild acid/alkali, UV, water-soak, humidity and thermal cycling; longer life for indoor/outdoor hot labels and oil/gas/industrial than paper/rubber transfer.
• Compliance breadth: MIL-type transfer reference, NASA low outgassing, automotive/aerospace/electronic specs; more production-ready than temporary tape, no cure/ooze vs liquid high-temp adhesive.
• Clear thin no edge: carrier-free for FPC/film/metal-foil/overlay zero caliper; thinner than PET double-coat, more low-outgassing than standard 100MP transfer such as 9460PC.

Applications

• FPC/flex circuits: flex PCB stiffeners, thin PI/PC to metal/FR4, sensor tabs near heat; low outgassing avoids precision-electronic contamination.
• Aerospace/defense: spacecraft low-outgassing bonds, labels/insulation details, vacuum/enclosed thin attachments; ASTM E595, low chloride review.
• Automotive LED/electronics: LED modules, lamp details, cabin high-temp electronics, sensor nameplates; short heat, UV/solvent capable, not long-term hot exterior primary.
• High-temp nameplates/labels: stainless/aluminum nameplates, equipment rating plates, oven/fuel-station/industrial hot labels; 62#DK die-cut metal plates with less burr.
• Precision electronic lamination: metal-foil-to-plastic thin layers, shield/insulator pieces, PC/PI/glass small parts, cleanroom low-fog fixing instead of liquid high-temp adhesive.
• Industrial high-temp details: valve/pump labels, oil-and-gas tags, temperature-controller metal-to-plastic, gasoline/oil/mild-chem environment; not large-gap fills.
• Appliance/instrument overlays: high-temp panel graphics, metal brackets, instrument thin bonds; UV/humidity stable, no stack-up.
