Product Description

3M™ 9460PC is a VHB adhesive-transfer / unsupported double-sided film: a clear 100MP high-temperature acrylic PSA about 0.05–0.058mm/2.3mil thick, supplied with a 58# polycoated kraft (PCK) liner in tan. There is no film, foam or cloth carrier—only adhesive plus release liner—so after liner removal it forms a near-zero-caliper transparent bond between two substrates. It is for permanent joining of smooth, high-surface-energy parts: nameplates, decorative metal trim, FPC-to-aluminum stiffener/heat-sink, LED attach, panel-to-frame, graphic/sign, solar/automotive/aerospace details on metal, glass, PC, ABS, PET, acrylic, rigid PVC, polyimide and FR4. It can replace some rivets, spot welds and liquid adhesives; long-term about 149°C, short process peaks about 260°C, UV/solvent resistant, indoor/outdoor. It does not fill gaps or dampen shock; rough surfaces, large gaps and low-surface-energy PP/PE are better served by other constructions.

• Truly unsupported, ultra-thin, clear: adhesive 0.05–0.058mm leaves almost no caliper, no visible edge, readable/graphic-transparent; thinner than PET double-coat or VHB foam, faster/cleaner than liquid adhesive with no flow or cure wait.
• 100MP high shear and peel: stainless 72h peel ~9.5N/cm, legacy 12N/10mm; static shear 1000g/0.5in² ≥10,000min at 20/65/95/120°C and 500g at 150/175°C—minimal creep under shear versus commodity rubber/hot-melt transfer.
• High-process-temperature: long-term ~149°C, short process peaks ~260°C (TDS variants show 232/204 or 260 depending on test) for bake, inline heat, electronics-adjacent and post-cure trim; hotter than general acrylic transfer, cheaper than silicone, no foam thickness like VHB.
• Broad high-surface-energy grip: metal/glass/PC/ABS/PET/acrylic/rigid PVC/PI/FR4/epoxy; legacy peel stainless 12, aluminum 11.5, glass 7.7, PC 7.1, ABS 6.6, acrylic 7.7, epoxy 8.8N/10mm—one acrylic for smooth rigid substrates.
• UV/solvent/weather resistant: weather-o-meter and Florida exposure show no strength loss; resists gasoline, JP-4, oil, mineral spirits, MEK splash, mild acid/alkali; more outdoor-stable than paper/rubber, cleaner than liquid.
• PCK liner for converting: 58# polycoated kraft, moisture-stable, low curl, good narrow-strip/die-cut/auto waste; better humidity stability than plain paper, easier edge protection than film liner for pure adhesive.
• Hole-free fastener replacement: metal trim, nameplates, FPC stiffeners and panel-frame bonds instead of rivets/spot-weld/screws—no surface damage, no corrosion paths; faster than mechanical, two-face adhesive vs one-face tape.
• Indoor/outdoor, insulation-capable: clear film dielectric ~1000V/25μm and insulation resistance >1×10⁶ per legacy A-10; useful for thin electrical nameplate/sensor assist, pending rated-voltage review.

Applications

• Nameplates/labels/graphics: metal/plastic nameplates, equipment labels, outdoor signs, display graphics and appliance face labels on smooth PC/aluminum/stainless with invisible clear bond.
• Metal trim/thin parts: appliance/automotive/architectural aluminum trim, stainless edge, decorative panels instead of spot weld/rivets; holds through post-cure heat.
• FPC/electronics thin bond: FPC-to-aluminum stiffener, FPC to heat sink/rigidizer, LED chip/strip assist, FR4-to-metal small parts; 100MP temperature plus low caliper.
• Panel-to-frame/solar: control-panel frame bonding, PV small parts/junction-box assist, sensor thin attach; indoor/outdoor UV and humidity resistance.
• Glass/acrylic/PC clear: glass graphic lamination assist, acrylic sign, PC window, display-adjacent thin bond (not optical-grade; check haze/yellowing).
• Aerospace/automotive/specialty: interior metal parts, instrument subplates, flexible heaters on metal, transportation permanent small parts by spec.
• Converted transfer: foam/rubber gaskets, thermal pads, dust meshes and conductive fabric single-side laminated with 9460PC; PCK slitting/die-cut waste.
• Liquid-adhesive replacement: metal-to-metal small area, plastic-to-metal permanent fix without drilling or wet adhesive; high-shear, chemical-exposed plants.
