Product Description

Scotch® 893 is a general-purpose single-coat filament tape, length-reinforced with continuous glass yarn and a clear biaxially oriented polypropylene (BOPP/PP) backing coated one-side with synthetic-rubber-resin PSA. It is built for high tensile, low stretch, nick/abrasion/moisture resistance in packaging and industrial bundling: heavy carton closure, L-clips, pallet unitizing, metal splicing/coil tabbing, steel/plastic pipe and rebar sets, and bulk-container reinforcement. The glass yarn carries load, the BOPP protects filaments and resists wet/scuff, and it runs by hand, dispenser or automatic L-clip. TDS total is typically 0.135mm/5.3mil; some 3M product/Channel SKUs list 6mil/0.152mm—follow the purchased TDS. It has far higher tensile than plain BOPP packing tape, is thinner/clearer than cloth, and avoids sharp edges vs steel/PP strap.

• Glass-yarn longitudinal ultra tensile: MD 5254N/100mm/300lb·in, elongation ~4% for carton/pipe/metal sets with almost no stretch or slack; far above plain BOPP, more directional/less creep than cloth.
• Synthetic-rubber high tack and shear: steel 180° peel 55N/100mm/50oz at 72h/22°C on stainless; instant grab and long hold on corrugate/fiberboard/rigid plastic/painted/bare metal; better aging than hot-melt filament, less stiff than acrylic in room/cool apply.
• BOPP clear, filament-protecting, moisture/scuff: nick/puncture does not fully snap; transit bumps, cold-adjacent and damp zones vs kraft/paper no wrinkle, clearer/more puncture-resistant than plain film; print/barcode shows through.
• 0.135–0.152mm thin, no gap build: thinner than cloth/heavy strap, softer than steel/PP; carton L-clip, metal parts and pipe bundles without wedging; hand narrow strips or dispenser, no sharp strap edges.
• Anti-nick, anti-propagation: BOPP plus glass yarn retains strength after minor cuts on rough corrugate, metal edges and pipe ends; still use edge protectors against concentrated cutting.
• General high-strength value: heavy cartons, pallets, bulk containers, metal/pipe/rebar/coil-tab can replace part of steel/heavy strap; safer than steel, no slack like cord, no flow like hot-melt.
• Dispenser/auto friendly, no curl: hand, 3M dispensers and automatic L-clip (e.g. Matic S867) unwind without curl/delamination; multi-layer synthetic-rubber system stabilizes converting.
• Limited outdoor plus warehouse: TDS allows limited outdoor and normal storage/transit cycles; indirect food contact per applicable Regulatory/SDS, not direct food by default.

Applications

• Heavy carton closure and L-clip: corrugated export/heavy boxes, center-seam or two-end L-clips for warehouse transit without flap blowout; clear for waybill scan.
• Pallet unitizing: cross-bands on multi-case/multi-part pallets to prevent tip/slide; auxiliary anti-loosen with steel/PP on medium-heavy loads.
• Metal splicing and coil tabbing: sheet splice, steel/coil/copper-aluminum coil end tabbing and roll start with no stretch under tension.
• Pipe/rebar/profile bundling: steel/plastic pipe, aluminum profile, rebar and lumber sets for shipping; MD load, low slack, edge protector on sharp ends.
• Bulk-container reinforcement: IBC outer/box bulk, drum hoop assist and large-case edge build-up against handling impact.
• Industrial part sets: automotive/specialty-vehicle/transit, hardware, furniture panels and sporting goods bundled on painted/rigid/bare metal.
• Food/beverage aid: pipe, metal parts and packing-line temporary bundling/box repair (indirect contact per Regulatory/SDS, not direct food).
• Legend-through protection: narrow clear strips over warnings/barcodes/manuals on boxes; scuff/moisture resistance in rough transit.
