Product Description

3M Scotch 681 is a high-performance transparent light-duty packaging film tape, total 2.4mil/0.061mm, with a 1.5mil/0.038mm transparent UPVC backing and a very-high-tack natural-rubber-resin PSA; standard 3in core, 66m/72yd.

It is made for heat-shrink packaging and light sealing/bagging/combining/temporary holding in moist or chemically aggressive atmospheres: the UPVC film resists moisture and chemicals and does not embrittle with age, the rubber-resin grabs many “difficult substrates” instantly, and it removes cleanly from many surfaces.

It meets US FDA 21 CFR 175.105 for indirect food contact and CID A-A-1684 for electronics/general-industrial/retail light packing.

• Very-high-tack rubber-resin on difficult faces: 22°C steel 180° peel 4.4N/cm/40oz·in for instant grab on some hard-to-stick plastics, coated surfaces, cool/damp cartons and mixed plastic/metal; faster startup than acrylic light tape, better aging than hot-melt.
• UPVC/Paklon moisture and chemical resistance: backing resists humidity and many chemical atmospheres for heat-shrink, cold-chain-adjacent and light wash/chemical rooms without softening/embrittling; more water-stable than cellophane 610, no water wrinkle like paper/kraft.
• Heat-shrink dedicated: 2.4mil clear film with high-tack rubber for seal/fix near shrink tunnels without lifting; thicker/tackier than office clear tape, more flexible/clear than heavy BOPP.
• Non-brittle, easy unwind: rubber-resin plus UPVC aging formula stays soft in storage/use; manual/dispenser friendly, less dead-pull than untreated thick film and less than some high-tack rubber tapes.
• Clean removal and easy-open closure: lifts from many surfaces with low residue; as carton/bag closure it seals yet opens later—better than low-end hot-melt and heavy hot-melt shipping tape for removable light seal.
• Indirect food-contact compliant: FDA 21 CFR 175.105 for indirect contact; food shrink/outer pack, retail gift baskets and cold-chain boxes can be evaluated as indirect contact; direct-food still needs separate food regulations.
• High clarity for labels: clear film over samples/bag mouths/shrink sleeves without hiding barcode/text; less visible than duct/kraft/colored PVC, though rubber 681 yellows more than acrylic 600 under long UV.
• Light high-performance compliance set: CID A-A-1684, 3in core multi-width, 35% elongation for sudden pull; more line-ready than pure office tape, cheaper than specialty chemical tape and thinner than heavy shipping tape.

Applications

• Heat-shrink seal/fix: food/beverage/personal-care/electronics shrink sets for patch joints, small-group pre-fix before shrink tunnel, stay closed near tunnel heat.
• Moist-environment light cartons: cold-chain-adjacent, wash zones, lab consumables and damp-area small boxes/L-clips; UPVC resists humidity, no water wrinkle.
• Chemical-atmosphere bags/cartons: chemical samples, cleaners, plating/paint shop light packs and solvent-vapor (non-soak) combining/sealing.
• Polybag/flexible sealing: PE/PP/laminate bag batch sealing, sample-bag fixing and retail multi-item bag tabbing with instant rubber tack.
• Difficult-surface temporary hold: coated plastic, painted面, recycled carton, cool/damp corrugate and metal-plastic small assemblies grab faster than acrylic light tape.
• Food outer/indirect contact: cooked-food outer cartons, cold-chain sub-pack outer seal and retail gift-basket shrink aid under FDA indirect-contact evaluation; not on exposed food directly.
• Electronics/retail light pack: PCB small boxes, accessory bags, store promo bundles and price-card bags; clear over barcode, clean-replaceable.
• Gift/sample/documents: shrink-basket outer fix, sample-box closure, document-bag temporary seal and transit anti-open; works as easy-open closure.
