Product Description

• 3M VHB 5952 is a black double-sided tape in the 59 family, 1.1mm/45mil total, built as “red-printed PE liner + modified acrylic adhesive on both sides + black very-conformable closed-cell acrylic foam.”
• The soft foam and modified acrylic bond high, medium and medium/low surface-energy substrates—stainless, aluminum, glass, many rigid plastics, painted surfaces and many powder coats.
• It replaces rivets, screws, spot welds and liquid adhesives for permanent structural bonding, while the closed-cell core seals against water, dampens vibration and fills minor mismatches. It suits powder-coated enclosures, curved trims, signage, appliance/electronic panels and transit interiors where surfaces are not perfectly flat and no drilling is wanted.

Features

• 1.1mm black soft foam: more conformable to curves/powder orange-peel than 4910 clear firm foam, more forgiving than 4950 white firm foam and 4941 medium-gray; black hides substrate and suits dark assemblies.
• Modified acrylic for “difficult faces”: high/medium/medium-low surfaces—stainless/aluminum/glass/ABS/PC/rigid PVC/paints/many powder coats direct; less primer than general firm acrylic, better aging/temperature than rubber double-coat.
• Closed-cell water seal + damping + gap fill: monolithic watertight bond, absorbs minor gaps, thermal movement and impact/rattle; no water intake vs open-cell PU, more permanent than duct/PE temporary.
• Structural replacement for fasteners: SS 90° peel 39N/cm, aluminum tensile 480kPa, SS overlap shear 550kPa; surface bonding replaces rivets/welds/screws and evens stress on dissimilar metal/plastic/glass.
• Very conformable against mismatch: soft core wets curves, texture, powder and minor tolerance better than tissue/film double-coat; more anti-lift than thick firm foam on irregular parts.
• Wide temp and weathering: max working 149°C; static shear 1000g@22°C/500g@66°C/250g@93°C for ~10,000min; indoor/outdoor UV and moisture resistance better than rubber/hot-melt double-coat.
• Red PE liner, conversion-ready: 0.13mm red-printed PE for clean slitting/die-cut/auto-line work; better than linerless foam and wetter environments than paper liner in some conversions.
• Immediate handling plus 72h buildup: PSA positioning then strength development; no mix/cure like liquid adhesive, no drill/grind/filler like screws.

• Powder-coated enclosures/sheet metal: electrical cabinets, equipment housings and stiffener-to-panel bonding on orange-peel powder surfaces without drilling.
• Signage and display letters: metal/acrylic/PC signs, outdoor letters, exhibit trims; black line hides on dark substrates, curved letters可接受.
• Appliance/electronic panels: TV/monitor trims, washer glass-to-metal door, control panels, appliance powder-face to plastic-frame fixing.
• Transit interior/exterior accessories: rail interior trims, truck cab roof/exhaust-adjacent small parts, vehicle interior strips (exterior UV/load reviewed separately).
• Architectural metal decor: aluminum-to-metal frame, curtain-wall small fittings, indoor metal trims, powder sections to stainless/glass locally.
• Automotive trim/logo/small parts: interior trims, nameplates, control panels, sensor housings, metal-to-plastic dissimilar fixing instead of small screws.
