Product Description

3M 5421 is a thin industrial slip/abrasion tape with an ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene (UHMW-PE) film backing, one-side rubber PSA and a silicone-treated densified-kraft paper liner; total 0.17mm/6.7mil (film 0.13mm, adhesive ~0.04mm). Its UHMW surface gives very low friction plus high abrasion resistance, creating a “slip plane” that reduces friction, sticking, wear and noise on metal/plastic rails/chutes without oil grease. It is used for conveyor guide rails, discharge/supply chutes, tank/bin liners, spray-booth liners, drawer/cabinet slides and aluminum-sheet protection on stretch-forming presses; it is the thinner version of 5423 for thickness-sensitive, die-cut jobs.

• 0.17mm thin, die-cut ready: thinner than 5423 for precision rails/small parts/stretch-press aluminum without adding stack; silicone kraft liner for knife/kiss-cut and slitting.
• Rubber tack plus translucent look: immediate bond on metal/plastic/spray-wall/aluminum; clear face keeps labels/edges inconspicuous vs duct/paper wear tapes.
• Noise and rattle reduction: UHMW slick layer damps squeak/rattle between dissimilar moving parts; quieter than hard plastic shims or metal shims.
• Chemical and low-moisture traits: broad solvent/chemical resistance vs commodity rubber-back tapes (verify per chemical); low water-vapor transmission suits tank/bin liners better than paper film.
• Industrial temperature band: long-term −34 to 107°C for cold chutes, ambient conveying and warm wash-side areas; wider than office/hot-melt protection tapes.
