Product Description

3M VHB 4905 is a clear double-coated solid/hard acrylic foam tape in the 4910 family, 0.5mm/20mil total, general-purpose acrylic on both sides, with a red-printed PE film liner. It makes permanent structural bonds to high-surface-energy substrates such as metals, glass, PC and acrylic, replacing rivets, welds, screws and liquid adhesives. It is for transparent/translucent parts and “nearly invisible” fixing of signs, trim, nameplates, glass/acrylic panels, electronic housings, windows/doors and building assemblies. The monolithic closed/solid acrylic construction gives water/moisture sealing, UV/solvent resistance and vibration damping for indoor/outdoor service, with press-and-hold handling and no drilling/grinding.

Features

• 0.5mm clear solid acrylic: nearly invisible on glass/acrylic/PC; less visible than paper, cloth or common PE foam double-coat, and clearer than gray/black VHB for transparent appearance parts.
• Monolithic acrylic viscoelastic structure: foam core and both adhesives are acrylic; relaxes/s dissipates load by creep and stress relaxation for peel/shear; better long-load performance than commodity PE/PU/EVA foam and office double-coat, replaces some mechanical fasteners.
• Quantified HSE bond: stainless peel 21N/cm, aluminum normal tensile 690kPa, stainless overlap shear 480kPa; stronger for metal/glass structures than thin tissue and general-purpose double-coats.
• Closed/solid water-moisture seal: monolithic path resists water/vapor; better outdoors/wet areas than open-cell PU (e.g., 4032 class) and porous foam, better two-side structure than single PVC.
• Weather/UV stable, low yellowing: indoor/outdoor, solvent/moisture resistant, clear body retains appearance; better than rubber/yellow foam and PE temporary foam for skylights, signs, electronic panels.
• Press-and-hold instead of rivets/welds/screws: no drill/grind, no liquid-cure wait; faster than epoxy/silicone, no hole-leak like screws, smoother than welds/rivets.
• Wide temperature: min apply 10°C, long 93°C, short 149°C (4h static evaluation), static shear 1000g@23°C/500g@93°C for 10000min; better than rubber/hot-melt/paper double-coat for heat aging.
• Die-cut, red PE liner, UL 746C: batch electronics/signs with clean liner waste; better automatic placement than linerless foam and heavy paper-liner foam.

• Electronics/appliance assembly: bezel, touch cover, clear lens and light-colored/transparent housing structural bits; suitable where UL 746C is relevant.
• Window/building details: glass fittings, window decorative strips, curtain-wall small attachments, metal-frame-to-acrylic/PC with water/moisture seal.
• Automotive/transit trim: emblems, interior moldings, sensor housings, rack/light accessories (per substrate energy and primer need).
