Product Description

3M 401+ is a professional green crepe-paper​ single-coat high-performance masking tape with a heat-resistant saturant and 3M proprietary solvent-free natural/synthetic rubber blend PSA, linerless. It is for automotive, specialty-vehicle, rail, marine and aerospace refinish plus general industrial spray where strong hold, no bleed from most industrial paint systems, super-sharp lines and paint-bake stability up to 250°F/121℃ for 30 minutes are required. It adheres at once to metal, glass, plastic, rubber and EPDM moldings and removes cleanly in one piece. Green backing improves visibility; it hand-tears without slivering and conforms around corners/contours for two-tone/multi-color, online repair, light bundling and marking.

Features

• Green crepe, mid-temp bake: 121℃ surface×30min without lift/brittle; above household 2090 and plain yellow crepe, below 501e/2380/2693 high-temp but more conformable and cheaper.
• Solvent-free rubber high tack: steel ~39N/100mm; instant on metal/glass/plastic/rubber/EPDM; faster initial grab than acrylic washi 244, more bake-stable than low-temp yellow rubber.
• Bleed-resistant sharp lines: saturated crepe resists most solvent/waterborne industrial paints at edges; sharper than untreated kraft/yellow and generic masking on contours.
• Conformable, no sliver: 10% elongation, crepe conforms to corners/moldings/fascia; no longitudinal split vs flat 250/2517, hand-tear vs PET high-temp.
• One-piece clean removal: after 30-min bake on most surfaces/EPDM with low transfer; lower residue risk than duct and some high-temp rubber, still dependent on dwell/surface/re-bake.
• Green high visibility: edge-of-mask, two-tone alignment and line checks stand out versus tan/buff masking.
• Automotive/specialty grade: trucks, buses, trailers, trains, fire/ambulance, aircraft two-tone, fascia and online repair per 3M recommended uses; more critical than general crepe.
• ASTM D6123, light ancillary: hangs masking film, marking/bundling/temporary hold; single-side linerless, not for primary insulation/waterproof/long outdoor UV.

Applications

• Automotive refinish/bake lines: two-tone bodies, belt lines, door edges, fenders, bumper margins; mask then strip after 121℃/30min bake.
• Specialty-vehicle two-tone: trucks, buses, trailers, trains, fire trucks, ambulances for livery/color-block/waistline critical masking.
• Industrial topcoat/fascia: plastic fascia, instrument bezels, equipment enclosures, metal brackets with waterborne/solvent topcoat; crepe conforms and resists bleed.
• Aerospace/marine/rail spray: aircraft exterior panels, vessel superstructure, cabin/interior parts under mid-temp bake; choose UV-grade for long outdoor service later.
• EPDM/rubber molding protection: door/body moldings, rubber seals and plastic clips masked with solvent-free rubber that removes cleanly post-bake.
• Custom multi-color: logo blocks, nameplate zones, repaint markings on tools/machines with green alignment and narrow slits.
• Online repair/prep: automotive inline touch-up, assembly rework, booth spot repaint; short bake without residue.
• Marking/light bundling/film hang: green line tape also for small bundles, masking-paper/film hanging and temporary IDs (non-structural).
