Product Description

3M Flatback Tape 2517 is a general-purpose flatback kraft tape: medium-brown unbleached kraft backing with a rubber PSA, single-coated and linerless. It is built for web/roll converting and industrial packaging—liner-board splicing, core starting, roll start/closure, general carton sealing, bundling and holding. The kraft backing is stiff, low-elongation and strong in cross direction; it tears by hand and runs on dispensers. The rubber adhesive gives high initial tack to steel, paper, film and many plastics, withstands a short bake cycle up to 300°F/149°C for 30 minutes and resists moist conditions. It is positioned for indoor general use, not for paint line-masking.

Applications

• Liner board/paper splicing: corrugated liner, paper web roll-change splices; flat low-stretch backing avoids wrinkle.
• Core start and roll start/closure: paper/print/coat core tabbing, parent-roll start, finished-roll closure.
• General industrial carton sealing: slit 55 m rolls for boxes, cores, building smalls and in-plant parts; more stable than hot-melt in damp stores.
• Bundling and hold: pipes, profiles, paper/film rolls and wire sets tied for intra-plant transfer.
• Film/label/web splicing: plastic film, foil-laminate and release-material narrow-line splices that pass a short dryer without lifting.
• Fixture/sample temporary hold: stampings, wood parts, prototypes and print sheets positioned; remove and check residue per substrate.
• High-temp temporary seal/tag: pre-oven samples, coat/laminate take-up, short 149°C/30-min dry/cure holding.
• Dispenser/web consumable: slit for manual/automatic dispensers—splicing, carton closure, tabs and roll-tail fixing.
