Product Description

3M Scotch 250 is a tan flatback paper​ single-coated masking tape with an aggressive rubber PSA and no liner. It is not aimed at curved-line high-bake masking; it is built for paint/coating adhesion cross-cut testing (ASTM D3359 etc.), temporary masking of paint/plating/powder coatings, and in-plant bundling/holding/wrapping with a strong low-stretch paper. The treated flat stock gives controlled unwind and tear resistance; short-term temperature is about 52°C/30 min, indoor use only, not recommended for outdoor exposure.

Applications

• Paint adhesion cross-cut QC: coating lines/labs use 250 on scribed film per ASTM D3359 to rate adhesion after tape pull.
• Ink/print adhesion testing: paper, panel and device printed ink checks; flat paper avoids stretch that would distort test force.
• Indoor paint/plating light masking: metal/plastic/furniture small-area spray, plating and powder pre-mask; remove within short 52°C/30-min window.
• Industrial bundling: pipes, wires, profiles, small metal lots and fixtures tied into bundles; lighter/cleaner than duct for indoor hold.
• Wrapping and temporary holding: flat/regular parts wrapped for intra-plant move, samples held, documents/sheets tabbed, temporary clamp assist.
• Straight-line color separation: indoor flat surfaces, machinery/control cabinets repaint markings, metal-panel two-tone straight edges; not small-R curves, not ovens.
• Plating/powder transit mask: selective mask at plating racks or pre-powder flat holes/threads; validate clean removal and no adhesive transfer.
• Maintenance/woodwork/electronics: furniture touch-up, wood glue clamp aid, prototype cable light bundling, indoor anti-shift fix before shipment.
