Product Description

• 3M Surface Saver Plus is a single-sided lens surfacing/protection tape for prescription Rx optics. It protects the optical surface during generating, fine grinding and polishing, and serves as the bonding interface between the alloy blocking block and the lens. It uses a conformable blue/translucent film with release liner and a proprietary low-peel PSA: fits all lens styles/base curves, low edge lift, clear enough for alignment sensors and progressive markings, high torque resistance, and clean removable after processing.

• 1640 = high alloy bond / high torque.

• 1641 = medium alloy bond / medium torque.

Applications

• Alloy blocking layup: 1640/1641 cover the lens front, bond to the alloy block and hold position before generating.
• High-speed generating/roughing: use 1640 for high torque, polycarbonate, high-index, steep-base or large-cylinder lenses to prevent twist/fly-off.
• Conventional fine grinding/resin work: use 1641 for standard generators, glass and moderate stock removal with easier deblock.
• Pre-polish protection: shield the front surface from polish-slurry heat and particulates while keeping progressive ink marks.
• Edging/transport scratch protection: full-surface tape during lab flow; add 1647 round protectors for small-piece edging, drilling, grooving and shipping.
• Progressive/free-form alignment: read marks through clear blue tape and align centers/axes with lab sensors.
• QC and dispensing hold: inspect without removing marks; after deblock, remove tape for cleaning, coating or cut-and-dispense.
• High-volume lab workflow: 4×50 yd rolls with the 1645 applicator reduce roll changes, missed coverage and rework.
